Extra Innings with Lauren: Quakes Sweep Storm, Pose as Comeback Kids

In the final regular season match up between the San Diego Padres A+ affiliate, the Storm, and the Los Angeles Dodgers A+ affiliate, the Quakes, both teams were looking to take the season series record.
Things got a little hairy in game 1 when the Quakes found themselves down 6-5 in the bottom of the 5th. They had nothing to worry about though after they fought back and scored 5 in the 5th and 3 over the last 2 innings.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the 9th, it looked as though the Quakes would drop game 2 of the 3 game set against the Storm, or so we all thought. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, O'Koyea Dickson drove in both runners with a base hit. Corey Seager then reached on a fielding error to put 2 men on again, still with no outs. A force out and a strikeout later, with 2 runners on, Chris O'Brien got an RBI base hit which tied the score at 3. With two runners on and 2 outs, Scott Wingo stepped up to the plate. With the runners ready to move on contact, Wingo hit the ball to short and beat out the throw to first, allowing pinch runner, John Cannon to score the game winning run.
After being swept last weekend by the Storm in Lake Elsinore, the Quakes looked to turn it around against them in Rancho. Winning the first 2 games guaranteed them the series win, but they played like they wanted more than just the win. They wanted the whole enchilada.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the third of game 3, the Quakes scored 3 runs and never looked back, especially after a 9 run 8th inning. They scored 4 runs with no outs, 3 runs with 1 out, and 2 runs with 2 outs.
The Quakes managed to take the season series, winning 15 and losing 11. The Quakes outscored the Storm 29-15, as well as out hit them, 32-28.

Lake Elsinore's Batting

Second baseman, BJ Guinn went 2-8 with a double. Shortstop, Jace Peterson went 4-10 with a double and a triple. Left fielder, Jeremy Baltz went 3-12 with 2 doubles. Catcher, Dane Phillips went 1-7 with a triple. Designated hitter/right fielder, Corey Adamson went 5-10 with a double and 2 triples. Right fielder, Kyle Gaedele went 1-8 with a double.

Rancho's Batting

Left fielder, Noel Cuevas went 1-11 with a double. Right fielder, Scott Schebler went 4-11 with a home run. Second baseman, Darnell Sweeney went 5-11 with 2 doubles and a triple. Designated hitter/first baseman, Chris Jacobs went 2-9 with a double. Shortstop, Corey Seager went 3-10 with a home run. First baseman/designated hitter, O'Koyea Dickson went 4-12 with a double. Third baseman, Scott Wingo went 3-9 with a home run and a walk off single. Catcher, Chris O'Brien went 3-8 with a double.

Storm's Pitching

Game 2 starter, Johnny Barbato had a solid outing, going 6 innings and allowing only 3 hits. Cody Hebner followed with an equally impressive 2 hitless innings of relief. Dan Cortes allowed 1 hit over 1.1 innings in game 3.

Quakes' Pitching

Game 1 winner, Raydel Sanchez allowed 1 hit over 3 innings in relief. Blake Smith went an inning without allowing a hit. Dan Coulombe allowed 1 hit over 2 innings in game 2. Joel Lima earned the game 2 win after throwing a hitless inning. Freddie Cabrera earned the game 3 win after going 5 innings and allowing 2 runs, both unearned, on 7 hits. Matt Shelton allowed 1 hit in 1 inning of relief. Eric Eadington went .2 innings without giving up a hit. Craig Stem went 1.1 hitless innings. Edwin Carl went .2 innings without giving up a hit.
