Extra Innings with Lauren: Storm Sweep Quakes

Game 2 of the 3 game series between the Quakes and Storm included a seemingly controversial call that could've made game 3 the rubber game. I witnessed the call first hand, so I'll set it up the best I can. With 2 outs and a runner on 1st and with the Storm down 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th, LE catcher, Jeremy Rodriguez doubled off the right field wall. Quakes right fielder, Noel Cuevas retrieved the ball and launched it to RC catcher, Pratt Maynard. It looked as though the ball had gotten to the plate in plenty of time and that Maynard had the plate blocked. A cloud of dust later and the tying run was safe at the plate. Maynard, Quakes pitcher, Gustavo Gomez, RC manager, Carlos Subero, and I didn't exactly agree with the umpire. Gomez seemingly took such an exception to the call that he was ejected from the game. Eric Eadington went in to pitch after that, striking out the next batter for the 3rd out, but not before Cuevas was given a fielding error. The Storm would go on to win the game in the 11th with a final score of 5-4.
The Quakes were outscored 16-8 as well as outhit, 27-24.

Rancho's Batting

Second baseman, Darnell Sweeney went 2-14 with 2 doubles. Left fielder/right fielder, Noel Cuevas went 4-12 with 2 doubles. First baseman, Chris Jacobs went 4-10 with a home run. Center fielder, Casio Grider went 2-11 with a bunt single. Left fielder/designated hitter, Bobby Coyle Jr. went 3-9 with a home run.

Lake Elsinore's Batting

Center fielder, Travis Jankowski went 2-13 with a double. Shortstop, Bridger Hunt went 2-8 with a double. Designated hitter/shortstop, Jace Peterson went 7-12 with a double and a triple. First baseman, A.J. Kirby-Jones went 4-7 with a double and a home run. Left fielder, Jeremy Baltz went 1-9 with a double. Third baseman/second baseman/first baseman, Chris Burke went 2-7 with a double. Right fielder, Kyle Gaedele went 4-11 with a double and a home run. Catcher, Jeremy Rodriguez went 4-7 with a double. Designated hitter/catcher, Dane Phillips went 1-9 with a walk off double.

Joel Lima threw 2 innings in relief in game 1, allowing 2 hits. Eric Eadington pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowing 1 hit in game 2. Edwin Carl allowed 1 hit over 2 innings in game 2. Craig Stem did not allow a hit in .1 inning in game 3.

Storm's Pitching

Game 1 winner, James Needy went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. Luis De La Cruz went 1.1 innings and allowed 1 hit in game 1. In game 1, Brandon Alger threw a hitless inning and allowed 1 hit over 1.1 innings in game 3. John Hussey allowed 2 hits over 2 innings in game 2. Dennis O'Grady allowed 2 hits over 2 innings in game 2 and earned the game 3 save after going an inning without allowing a hit. Game 2 winner, Trevor Holder threw a hitless inning.
