Extra Innings with Lauren: Quakes Win Rubber Game, Take 2nd Straight Series

After a seemingly never ending, back and forth game 2, the Quakes took it upon themselves to ensure game 3 wouldn't take another 13 innings over 5 hours. The scoring in game 4 was minimal, which is surprising due to the location of Stater Brothers Field in Adelanto. As mentioned in a previous post, Stater Bros. Field is a very hitter friendly park as was obvious in game 2, the 13 inning marathon, that ended with a final score of 18-16. Back to game 3, the Quakes scored a run in the first, with Noel Cuevas starting off the game with a double. He advanced to third on a ground out and scored on an RBI single from Darnell Sweeney. The Mavericks turned the tables in the bottom of the inning, scoring 2. The Quakes tied it up in the 4th, as Darnell Sweeney was walked, O'Koyea Dickson then hit a single to move Sweeney to second, and then Corey Seager was walked to load the bases. Pratt Maynard grounded into a double play, which brought in Sweeney from third and advanced Dickson from second. Neither team would score again until the top of the 8th. Noel Cuevas got a free pass to first and then Scott Schebler did what he does best, hit his league leading 27th home run of the year to give the Quakes the lead. Darnell Sweeney was able to hit a double before an out was recorded, but after that, it became a 1-2-3 inning. The top of the 8th capped the scoring for both teams and the rest of the game went fairly quickly. Quakes pitcher, Dan Coulombe finished up the game with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings.
The Quakes outscored the Mavericks 28- 25, as well as outhit them, 41-38.
