Extra Innings with Lauren: Quakes Avoid Sweep in Adelanto

The Quakes and the Mavericks met up this weekend for the 3rd time this year, the second time in Adelanto. The Quakes took the loss in the first two games, but rallied back for the final game to avoid the sweep. The Mavericks park is a well known hitters park and that was made clear by the fact that both teams scored over 20 runs each, Quakes (25), Mavericks (24), as well as had over 25 hits each, Quakes (29), Mavericks (38).

Rancho Cucamonga's Batting

Left fielder/center fielder, Noel Cuevas went 4-14 with 2 home runs. Right fielder, Scott Schebler went 9-14 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 2 home runs. Shortstop, Darnell Sweeney went 2-13 with 2 doubles. First baseman/designated hitter, O'Koyea Dickson went 4-12 with a double and a triple. Center fielder/second baseman/third baseman, Casio Grider went 6-11 with a double. Catcher/first baseman, Webster Rivas went 2-8 with a double and a home run.

High Desert's Batting

Second baseman/designated hitter/ first baseman, Patrick Brady went 7-12 with 2 doubles and a home run. First baseman/left fielder, Kevin Rivers went 4-11 with 2 doubles. Left fielder/designated hitter, Jabari Blash went 4-13 with 2 doubles. Catcher, Steve Baron went 2-7 with 2 doubles. Designated hitter/right fielder, Alfredo Morales went 6-12 with a double. Right fielder/center fielder, Nathan Melendres went 1-9 with a triple. Shortstop, Anthiny Phillips went 3-11 with a triple. Catcher, David Villasuso went 2-4 with a double.

Quakes's Pitching

Relief pitcher, Matt Shelton went 1.2 innings in game 1 and only allowed 1 hit. In game 2, outfielder turned pitcher, Blake Smith made his second appearance, going .1 innings and allowing 2 runs, neither of them earned, on 1 hit. Freddie Cabrera went 1.2 innings in game 2 and allowed 2 hits. Jarret Martin went an inning in game 2 and did not allow a hit or a run. Dodgers,s pitcher, Ted Lilly made his 5th rehab start of the year with the Quakes for game 3 and went 5.1 innings and allowed 6 runs on 9 hits. He had a rocky start, but struck out the final batter he faced for a total strikeout count of 7, earning him his first win a Quakes uniform this season. Dan Coulombe came in to relieve him and allowed 1 hit in 1.1 innings of work. Joel Lima earned the game 3 save after going 2.1 innings and allowing 2 hits.

Mavericks's Pitching

Starter, Stephen Landazuri earned the game 1 win after going 6 innings and allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Starter, Cam Hobson earned the game 2 win after going 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Relief pitcher, Dominic Leone threw 1.1 innings of 2 hit baseball in game 2. Jeremy Dobbs went 3 innings and allowed 2 unearned runs on 2 hits in game 3.

Roster Moves

Outfielder, Bobby Coyle has been placed on the disabled list. Starting pitcher, Angel Sanchez has been traded to the Miami Marlins as well as former Quake, Steven Ames and former 66er, Josh Wall, for pitcher Ricky Nolasco.

Upcoming Games

The Quakes have a 3 game set against the Inland Empire 66ers in San Bernardino and will then return home on Wednesday for a special 11:35 start time game against the Mavericks.
