Quakes Avoid the Sweep in Stockton!

After sweeping the Lake Elsinore Storm last weekend, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes made the long journey up north to Stockton, California, to Banner Island Ballpark. They came into this series with a record of 12-12 , but left it with a record of 13-14, dropping below .500 again. They look to crawl back over the .500 line this weekend as they take on the San Jose Giants in San Jose, California, at Municipal Stadium. But before we get to San Jose, we'll bring you up to speed on the series in Stockton. Since the Quakes were the visiting team this series, we'll start with them.

Rancho's Roundup (Not all players listed)

Shortstop, Darnell Sweeney went 5-15 with two doubles and a triple. Right fielder, Jon Garcia went 3-12 with a triple. Outfielder, Noel Cuaves batted .364 while going 4-11. Outfielder, Scott Schbler went 4-10 with a double and a home run, his team leading 4th of the year. Outfielder, Rob Garvey went 2-4 in the one game he played in, and 1st baseman/DH, Angelo Songco went 2-7 with a double.

Stockton's Stars (Not all players listed)

Shortstop, Addison Russell went 3-12 with a triple, with second baseman/DH, Antonio Lamas doing the same. First baseman, Max Muncy went 3-12 with a home run. Right fielder/DH, Josh Whitaker went 4-9 with a home run. Third baseman B.A. Vollmuth went 1-9 with a double. Catcher, Ryan Ortiz went 2-3 with a home run in the one game he played in before being sent to the Sacramento River Cats. Center fielder, Bobby Crocker went 4-11 with a double and a triple. Right fielder Myrio Richard went 1-3 in the one game he played in.

The Ports out scored the Quakes 13-12, but were outhit by the Quakes 26-22.

Rancho's Pitching

Newly promoted RHP, Owen Jones went 3 innings over two games while only allowing 1 hit. Pedro Baez earned his first save of the year and allowed just 2 hits in 2 innings pitched. Starter Jarret Martin had his best outing of the year, going 6 innings while giving up just two hits. He received the loss, however as two unearned runs scored. Freddie Cabrera went one inning and allowed only one hit, while Dan Coulombe went 1 inning and allowed no hits.

Stockton's Support

Relief pitcher Omar Duran went 1.1 innings and allowed no hits. Pedro Vidal went 3 total innings and allowed just 3 hits. Jonathan Joseph went 2 innings and allowed no hits, giving him the win in game one. Starter, Drew Granier received the win in game 2 after going 7 innings and allowing only 1 run on 5 hits. Seth Frankoff received the save by going 2 innings and not giving up a hit. T.J. Waltz went 3 innings while giving up no hits and Jose Macias went 2 innings while giving up just two hits.
