Quakes Win Series as JetHawks Avoid Sweep

The Lancaster JetHawks and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes faced each other for the first time this season, which I find highly unusual as they've usually played each other about 6 times by now. The three game stint was played in Lancaster, California at Clear Channel Stadium, or The Hangar, with the Quakes taking the first two games and the JetHawks taking the finale in walk-off fashion. All three games were exciting, at least for those who love when the score goes back and forth as it quickly rises as opposed to those who enjoy a good pitchers duel. Between the two teams, a total of 59 runs scored with 7 of the runs being home runs, 8 if you include an inside the park HR. The JetHawks out hit the Quakes 43-34, but scored only 26 runs to the Quakes 33. Both teams had fully awake bats as will become apparent in just a moment. 

Rancho's Batting

Shortstop/second baseman, Casio Grider went 1-6 with a double. Center fielder, Noel Cuevas went 4-12 with a double and a triple. Third baseman, Ryan Mount continued his hot streak by going 5-11 with 2 doubles. First baseman/designated hitter O'Koyea Dickson went 3-11 with a double. Designated hitter/first baseman, Angelo Songco went 7-14 with a double. Right fielder, Jon Garcia went 4-15 with two triples and a home run. Left fielder, Scott Schebler went 4-14 with a double and an inside the park home run. Second baseman, Scott Wingo went 1-6 with a double. Shortstop, Darnell Sweeney went 3-11 with a double.

Lancaster's Batting

Second baseman, Delino DeShields went 2-6 with a home run. Short stop/second baseman, Joe Sclafani went 7-11 with a double and a series BA of .636. Right fielder, Preston Tucker went 8-14 with a triple. Third baseman, Matt Duffy went 4-12 with a home run. First baseman, Telvin Nash went 3-14 with 2 home runs. Catcher, Tyler Heineman went 2-8 with a home run. Center fielder/left fielder, Chris Epps went 6-11 with 4 doubles. Center fielder, Andrew Aplin went 4-11 with 3 doubles and a home run.

Both teams had some pitching troubles in this series, but I've compiled the best work of a few of the pitchers who succeeded.

Quake's Pitching 

Game one winner, Pedro Baez went a total of 2 innings and allowed just 2 hits. Relief pitcher, Jon Michael Redding went 1 inning in game 1 and allowed no hits. Game 2 relief pitcher, Raydel Sanchez went 1.1 innings while allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits. 

JetHawk's Pitching

Game two relief pitcher, Theron Geith went 2 total innings while allowing just 1 hit. Game 3 winner, Travis Ballew went 1.2 innings over two games and allowed 4 unearned runs on 3 hits. 

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Thursday night (5/23) and play the Visalia Rawhide, the Class A Advance affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
